“I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord.'” Psalm 122:1
Visitors are warmly welcomed at the Covington Church of Christ. If you are in the area and are looking for a strong congregation of the Lord’s church, please worship with us at the Covington Church of Christ! If you are traveling and are passing through the area, please stop in and worship with us! Below are a few things that you can expect when you visit.
ANTICIPATE A WORKING CHURCH
“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’” Matthew 9:37-38
The Covington Church of Christ strives to stay busy doing the work of the Lord.
ANTICIPATE A UNITED CHURCH
“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent me. And the glory which you gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:” John 17:20-22
“Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” 1 Corinthians 1:10
“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Ephesians 4:1-6
The members of the Covington Church of Christ are one body united through the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
ANTICIPATE A STUDIOUS CHURCH
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
“These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.” Acts 17:11
“Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.” Psalm 1:1-2
“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.” Psalm 19:7-11
The members of the Covington Church of Christ are diligent Bible students. We strive to study the Bible and gain the wisdom and understanding necessary to apply it to our lives and to teach it to others. Please join us as we endeavor in our group Bible studies.
Sundays 10AM – 11AM: Study of the book of Acts
Wednesdays 7PM – 8PM: Study of the book of 1 Corinthians
ANTICIPATE A CHURCH THAT TEACHES AND PRACTICES SOUND DOCTRINE
“But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:” Titus 2:1
“For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that ae written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Revelation 22:18-19
“…that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written,…” 1 Corinthians 4:6
The members of the Covington Church of Christ are not only a studious congregation of the Lord’s church, but we apply that in our teaching, preaching, and actions. Everything taught in the form of a class or a sermon has sound Biblical roots to stand on. Nothing is added to the precious Word of God, nor is anything left out.
ANTICIPATE A LOVING CHURCH
“And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13
The members of the Covington Church of Christ love one another and love the brethren around the world. It is our goal to be with our Lord in heaven when our time on earth is complete and to bring as many as we can with us. The love that we have for one another allows us to always keep this goal on the front of our minds.
ANTICIPATE A FAITHFUL CHURCH
“Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” Revelation 2:10
It is another one of our goals at the Covington Church of Christ to faithfully serve our Lord to the best of our ability as long as we have the breath of life.
ANTICIPATE A BIBLICALLY ORGANIZED CHURCH
“For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you-” Titus 1:5
Our elders at the Covington Church of Christ strive diligently to shepherd the flock according to the Scriptures. Their efforts are well appreciated by the members. It is their sound Biblical leadership (under the ultimate authority of our Lord, the Chief Shepherd, 1 Peter 5:4) that helps keep us all focused on serving our Lord.
ANTICIPATE A CHURCH THAT WORSHIPS IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH
“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24
Each and every assembly of the Covington Church of Christ for worship is done in spirit and truth. The members realize our dependency upon God, love God, and praise God with our spiritual all. We also worship in the way that God has outlined for us to worship. The acts of worship according to the Bible are listed below. Each worship service consists of all of these.
Prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Partaking of the Lord’s Supper (Acts 20:7)
Giving (1 Corinthians 16:2)
Preaching (2 Timothy 4:2)
Non-Instrumental Singing (Ephesians 5:19-20, Colossians 3:16)
We assemble for worship on the first day of every week for the reasons below.
